Hordes are a regular occurrence, but they offer a decent challenge. It dependably lets you know how and where your enemies are damaged–right down to flapping jawbones–which is crucial when you’re flailing around too quickly to process their life bars. Rough and tumbleĪt least the visuals are entirely dependable in combat, where it matters most. You’d’ve forgiven Dambuster for not including them it’s just such an odd design decision. Worst of all are the mirrors, which are effectively windows that peer into boxes containing linear imprints of the rooms they’re meant to reflect. Distant enemies can drop to single-figure framerates. Worse are in-game interactions, where lip-syncing is next to non-existent and people’s tongues creepily flap up and down as they speak (looking at you, Sam B). Cutscenes are solid enough, but audio regularly falls out of sync with visuals, even for just one character. ![]() It’s not going to blow you away, but when it comes to the action, specifically its comically violent gore, it feels brutal in all the right ways, and maintains an impressively smooth framerate even when you’re in the middle of a horde, without resorting to maddening levels of motion blur.Īdmittedly, its capabilities are often undercut by a few dodgy visual aspects that shatter the illusion of AAA blockbuster. Dambuster Studios / PLAIONĭead Island 2 looks good. ![]() It's not the most attractive game you'll play, but 'Dead Island 2' sure has its moments.
